Erin Snyder Obituary
Erin E. (Matthews) Snyder, 78, of Fitchburg, passed away March 27, 2018 at Fitchburg Healthcare after a long illness.
Erin was born August 21, 1939 in Corowa, NSW, Australia. She was the daughter of Annie I. (Chapman) Matthews and Roy H. Matthews. She attended school in Melbourne Australia and moved to London with her mother in 1957. She traveled around Europe until she married the love of her life, Robert J. Snyder and moved to Herkimer, NY. She and Bob raised their family in Poland,NY before moving to Fitchburg, where she has lived since 1977.
Erin leaves behind five children, Erinanne Burroughs and her husband David, Robert Snyder and his wife Donna Hoffman, David Snyder and his wife Louise, Gregory Snyder and his wife Rachel, and Robyn Horn and her husband Kenny. She was the proud and loving grandmother to Jared Snyder, Michaela Horn, Kelsey Horn, Devan Snyder, and Lindsay Snyder, and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Brielle. She also leaves many nieces and nephews in Australia. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, son Michael, brothers Allen, Roy, and Kevan, and her best friend Mary Edwards.
Erin worked as a hairdresser before moving to Massachusetts and then worked at GenRad in Concord and as a preschool teacher at Oak Hill Nursery School. Erinloved to travel, paint, garden, cook and knit. More than anything else, she loved her family. She took care of her five grandchildren so that none of them had to go to daycare. She was known for her radiant smile, silly songs, and abundant hugs and kisses. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday April 6, 2018 with a Funeral home service @ 12 noon in The Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home 99 Summer St. Fitchburg, MA There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Residence Fund c/o Fitchburg Healthcare, 1199 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
