Leonard Stephen "Pop" Frerichs

Leonard Stephen "Pop" Frerichs, age 87, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on April 12, 2024, in Massachusetts. He was born on January 4,1937. Leonard, known as "Pop" to his loved ones, served in the Army from 1962 to 1980, with military associations in Army Intelligence ASA. His service earned him several accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Silver Loop, and Army Commendation Medal. Following his military career, he worked in Intelligence Civil Service from 1980 to 1995. 

Leonard was a proud graduate of Talmage High School and held degrees from Fitchburg State University and Maryland University. He had a passion for history, computers, reading, and genealogy. Leonard enjoyed hiking with his beloved furry companions and spending time with his family. 

Leonard is survived by his wife, Helen M. (Doheny) Frerichs; daughter, Laura A. Frerichs; grandsons, Zachary E. Frerichs and Polo Dejesus; and his cherished Grandpuppies, Dallas and Oreo. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eileen M. Frerichs, mother Laura Frerichs (Beiri), Father George Frerichs, and sister Deleros Frerichs. 

A funeral service will be held at the Lavery Chartrand  Alario Funeral Home 99 Summer St. in Fitchburg, MA, on  Thursday,April 18, 2024, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Followed by a funeral  service at 11a.m., Leonard will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, MA, at 111 Glenallen St .at a later date. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Seven Hills Pediatric Center in Groton MA, and the Sterling Animal Shelter in Sterling, MA. The Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home in Fitchburg, MA, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
