                                             OBITUARY  NOTICE

Fitchburg:  Adolph V. Rocca ,94 of Fitchburg, MA passed away Monday , January 7,2019 in Sterling Village surrounded by his family after a very long, happy, and active life.

Born October 6, 1924  in Leominster, MA son of Vincenzo and Mesia (Farinelli) Rocca, he was the oldest of three sons. He grew up in Leominster, MA and graduated from Leominster High School Class of 1942. He was instrumental in organizing his class reunions; the last one in 2012. In 1943 he enlisted the U.S. Navy and proudly served for three years, receiving medals of valor , Two WW2 Asiatic  Pacific Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon Star. He served aboard the USS LST 992. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He worked as a type setter at the former Posco Printing  before his retirement many years ago.

His wife of sixty-six years, Claire E. (Smith) Rocca passed away in 2015. He leaves his three daughters and their spouses in Fitchburg,MA, his seven grandchildren who called him  “Gramp”, and his eleven great grandchildren who will miss their Papa GiGi. Daughters; Linda & Jonathan Roy, Brenda & Kevin Roy and Joyce & Martin Maynard. Grandchildren: Daniel & Caitlin Roy, Michael Roy, Caitlin Roy, Shelley Wells & Robert Murphy, Andrew & Anna Roy, Timothy & Michelle Roy, Nathan Glenny & Kristin Glover, David &Sarah Glenny, great grandchildren, Madison Glover, Cathal Wells, Gavin  Roy, Mae Roy, Sophia Roy, Savannah Glenny, Alex Roy, Logan Roy, Aria Roy, Brayden Glenny, and Emmitt Roy. He also leaves his sister-in-law Susan Rocca of Leominster, MA, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson Devan Glenny in 2018, his brothers Albert (Patricia) Rocca and Louis Rocca.

He was active at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fitchburg, MA, the Fitchburg Booster Club, Friendship Club, Italian War Veterans and The Sons of Italy. He was a longtime member of Monoosnock Country Club. His past times included horse racing, golf, horseshoes, cribbage, the daily crossword puzzle, a good book, gardening , and the lasting friendships he kept over the years.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, dancing, playing cards on Saturday nights, and anytime granted to be with family and friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate his legacy by gathering for visiting hours on Friday, January 11,2019 from 4 until 7p.m. in The Lavery Chartrand   Alario Funeral Home 99 Summer St. Fitchburg, MA. His funeral will be held on Saturday January 12,2019 with  Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church , 81 Sheridan St. Fitchburg, MA. Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery Fitchburg, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church Restoration Fund 63 Sheridan St. Fitchburg, MA 01420 or to a charity of your choice.  Michael S. Alario  Director – Owner.
