Fitchburg: Alfred H. Fagan, 96 of Fitchburg, MA passed away peacefully November 14, 2018 in Fitchburg Healthcare with his family at his side.
He was born December 25, 1921 in Cape Ball, N.B. , Canada son of Elphege and Margaret (Leger) Fagan. He lived in Fitchburg, MA most of his life. In November of 1942 Alfred enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Infantry , Company D 350th during WW2. He served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater and was a recipient of the Bronze Arrowhead and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Alfred went on to work as a papermaker for 27 years at the former Falulah Paper Co. in Fitchburg, MA and also was a carpenter in the Lowell Carpenter's Union for 10 years, retiring in 1982.. He was the Past Commander of American Legion Post 361 of Ashby, MA. Al was a real sportsman, he loved going fishing and huntiong, and loved to play golf where he scored a hole in one at Maplewood Golf Course (now Settlers Crossing) in Lunenburg, MA in 1983. He also enjoyed bowling and spending time with his wife Pauline.
He attended St. Camillus De Lellis Church.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years , Pauline J.( Brackett ) Fagan, his two daughters, Diane M. Smith of Fitchburg, MA and Denise I. and husband Kenneth Laaksonen of Leominster, MA , three grandchildren, Robin Morris, Tracy Anderson, and Kristina -Marie Carreno, two great grandchildren, Justin Anderson and Sela Morris, his sister Georgianna Martino of Fitchburg and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of his family all services will be private and held in the Spring of 2019 in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery - Winchendon, MA. There are no calling hours.
