OBITUARY NOTICE : Fitchburg: John M. Lukas, 88 of Fitchburg, MA. passed away peacefully Sunday, November 20,2016 at his residence with his loving wife and daughter at his side.
He was born in Worcester, MA. April 26, 1928, son of Alex and Anna (Winslow) Liubauskas and was raised in Worcester, MA. John was a graduate of St. John’s High School in 1945. He continued his education and graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. in 1949, and went on to receive his Master’s Degree at Assumption College. He entered into the Priesthood and was a Parish Priest for seventeen years.
John ,along with his wife Lois, were Foster Parents of many children for several years. He worked as a principle interviewer for employment for the State of Massachusetts, retiring in 1988.
He enjoyed walking , was an avid tennis player, and loved going to Cape Cod to vacation. He was a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and most enjoyed attending Mass.
He is survived by his wife of forty –two years, Lois A. (Gladding) Lukas of Fitchburg, MA., his two daughters’, Chanel Horgan and husband Brendan of Fitchburg, MA. , Jennifer Lukas and her partner Thomas MacKenzie of Wareham, MA., his sister Alice Donovan of Weymouth, MA., six grandchildren, Anna, Katherine, Sebastian, Lukas, twins Damon and Delilah, nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his brother Francis Lukas and sister’s Helen Liubauskas, Rita Neubauer and Florence O’Brien.
His funeral will be held on Saturday , November 26,2016 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in St. Bernard Parish @ St. Camillus De Lellis Church 333 Mechanic St. Fitchburg, MA. All are welcome to attend. Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Those who plan to attend should meet at the church prior to the Mass.
