                                             OBITUARY  NOTICE

Leominster :   Mary  S. (Slyva) Ellis 98 of Leominster, MA passed away peacefully  May 18, 2018 in the Highlands.

She was born March 25, 1920 in Hyde Park daughter of John and Apolonia ( Galbavi) Slyva  . She was raised in Hyde Park where she attended and graduated from Hyde Park High and also graduated  from the former Chamberlain School in Boston, MA.

Mary started her career in journalism at the Gardner News , where her first assignment was to write an obituary. She remained at the News for ten years before coming to the Sentinel & Enterprise in 1967. She became the church editior and was well respected as reporter and writing the obituaries . She did this with a great purpose and passion for thirty-two years , retiring in 1988.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and worked with her.

She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Susan Fernandes and husband  Steven of South Dennis, Ma, nieces, Janet English of Sarasota , Florida.,Kimberly Umana of Palmetto, Florida and Ellie Keating of West Bridgewater, MA, and Joan Sutliff Sale and husband Dr. George Sale of Bainbridge Island, Washington, two grandchildren, Amy Dixon and Sean Ellis, three great grandchildren, Sophie, Ian and Eben.  She was predeceased by her husband William Ellis in 1991, her son Frederick J. Ellis , brothers  Frank , Joseph and John Slyva and her nephew Rev. Joseph W. Slyva.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday May 31,2018 with a Mass @ 10a.m. in Our Lady of The Lake Church 1400 Main St. Leominster, MA. Interment will be held on Friday June  1, 2018 in Massachuestts National Cemetery Bourne.  There will be a calling hour at the funeral  home  one hour prior to the Mass. All friends and relatives are welcome to attend.
