OBITUARY NOTICE
Fitchburg: Richard E. Grote 73 of Fitchburg, MA passed away Thursday April 26,2018 in Oakdale Rehab and Skilled Nursing , West Boylston, MA.
He was born February 22, 1945 in Kimball, Nebraska son of John and Janice (Umphenur) Grote. He was raised in Lingle.Wyoming
Richard was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal w/3 Oak Clusters and the Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm. He achieved the rank of Major and was honorably discharged in 1974.
He Lived over 20 years in Auburn, MA before coming to live in Fitchburg, MA for last fifteen years. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming and earned his MBA from Nichols College. Richard worked as a project manager for the former Digital Equipment Corp. before his retirement in 2007.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 279 of Auburn, and enjoyed working with computers. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg, MA
He is survived by his wife Mary C. (Foss) Grote of Fitchburg, MA, his daughter Kristine Nordman of Auburn, MA, a brother David Grote and his wife Judith Vioski of Ave Maria , Florida, a sister Carol Carr and husband William in Lingle, Wyoming, grandchildren Kayla, Connor, Alexis, and Liam along with several nephews and nieces.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday May 3, 2018 with a Mass @ 10a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg. Inurnment will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery – Winchendon, MA. all friends and relatives are invited to attend. There are no calling hours.
