OBITUARY NOTICE
Fitchburg: Romeo H. Bernard 88 of Fitchburg, MA passed away peacefully in his home with his family at his side. Saturday February 24,2018.
He was born July 19, 1929 in Fitchburg, MA son of Hector and Matilda (Richard) Bernard. He lived all of his life in Fitchburg. He attended school in Fitchburg and then in 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was a life time member of the American Legion Post #429 in Fitchburg.
He was a former employee of DeJong’s Paper, Weyerhauser Paper, James River Paper and Georgia Pacific Paper Mill’s for over twenty-five years . He then worked as a cost accountant for James Monroe Wire and Cable and retired from there several years ago.
He was a very active member of S. Francis of Assisi Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, Treasurer of St. Vincent De Paul, and the senior group on Tuesdays. He worked in the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at the church for many years and was a member of the bereavement committee. He enjoyed playing cards, making puzzles, and computer games.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeannette (Moussette) Bernard, his son John Bernard and his companion Hillary of Round Rock, Texas, daughters, Mary Jean and her companion Dennis Rosa, and Michelle Agniti and husband Ronald of South Carolina, six grandchildren John, Thomas , Marcin, Nikole, Dakotah and Zachery, three great grandchildren, Hunter, Christian, and Charles, his sister Mary Jane Rosenthal of Fitchburg, MA. and several nieces and nephews.He is predeceased by his infant daughter Elizabeth, brothers, Guy, Marcel, Richard, Roland, Norman, and Donald and sisters, Rachel Melanson and Elda Rousseau .
His family would like to give special thanks to the Health Alliance Hospice Staff and the French Connection for their compassionate care given to Romeo and his family during this most difficult time.
His funeral will be held on Thursday March 1, 2018 with a Mass at 11a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church 81 Sheridan St. Fitchburg. A calling hour will be held on Thursday morning at the church from 10 until 11a.m. and all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Vincent De Paul c/o St. Francis of Assisi Church of to Our Father Table, 40 Boutelle St. Fitchburg, MA. 01420.
