OBITUARY NOTICE : Fitchburg: William E. Menard Sr., 84 of Fitchburg, MA. passed away peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born February 10, 1933 in Fitchburg, MA. son of Alfred and Isabel (McBride) Menard and was raised in Fitchburg. In 1950 Bill enlisted in the U.S Army. He served his country during the Korean War. He served in the 1st Calvary Division, 7th Calvary/Garyowen Regiment. He saw action in Korea where he received his Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and rose to the rank of Sargeant First Class. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Bill , a veteran carried the role with him in civilian life, showing concern for the safety of others. He loved to share stories of his experiences and was always willing to help someone in need. He was kindhearted and strong, sticking to his convictions.
Bill owned and operated an auto repair business and a used car business before working in the plastics industry. There he specialized in assembling and maintaining the industrial machinery for over thirty years and served as Union President for a period. Bill was a lifetime member of VFW Post #79. He was a member of the Eastwood Club and the Lakeview, where he enjoyed the company of others.
After his service he married his long time sweetheart, Rosina (Lomaglio) and raised four children, William E. Menard Jr. and wife Brenda of Greenville, N.C. Thomas Menard and wife Claudette of Laconia , N.H. , Paul Menard and wife Celia of Fitchburg, MA. and Kathy Friend and husband Brian of Collegeville, PA. . He also leaves eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his former wife and friend Rosina (Lomaglio) and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his twin brother Richard Menard.
His funeral will be held on Monday April 10,2017 with a Mass at 11a.m. in St. Bernard Parish @ St. Camillus De Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St. Fitchburg.
Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery,Winchendon, MA. . A calling hour will be held at the funeral home Monday morning from 9:30 until 10:30a.m.
