Bernard P. McGuirk, Jr., 79, of Fitchburg, MA
Bernard “Bernie” McGuirk, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2023 in Fitchburg, MA.
Bernie was born and raised in Fitchburg and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1960 and served in U.S. Army. He had a long career as a plant and operations manager, retiring from Miles Kedex several years ago. Bernie was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Celtics and was an avid reader.
Bernie will be forever missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty (Grillo) McGuirk, sons Bernard McGuirk, III and Brian McGuirk, daughter Elizabeth (McGuirk) Seale and her husband, JD Seale, and his grandsons Connor McGuirk and Aidan McGuirk. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Roy Grillo and sister-in-law Joanne (Ethier) McGuirk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Bernie is predeceased by his parents, Bernard P. McGuirk, Sr., Helen (Crawford) McGuirk-Murphy, his brother Michael P. McGuirk, half-brother William J. Murphy, half-sister Maryanne Murphy and stepfather, WilliamT. Murphy.
Bernie’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 7,2023 with a Mass @ 11a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg,MA. Burial in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St.,Winchendon, MA will be private at the request of his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bernie’s memory to The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, c/o St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
