Carroll W. Shouse

Fitchburg – Carroll W. Shouse, 76, passed away November 13, 2023, after being stricken ill at home.

Carroll was born February 18, 1947, in Winston-Salem North Carolina, the son of the late John and Sylvanar (Ring) Shouse. He graduated from James A Gray High School, and later attended Gardner-Webb University. After serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, he went on to work for Digital Equipment Corporation for over 20 years. He would later work for Insco Corporation in Groton before retiring.

Retirement allowed Carroll to pursue his true passion for fishing. He could often be found at Lake Whalom in Lunenburg. As always with Carroll, it was never about how many fish he could catch, but more about spending time with his friends at the lake, whom he developed great friendships with. He also greatly enjoyed going out for breakfast with friends and family every Wednesday.

He took yearly vacations to York Maine each summer. In recent years, he would take part in regularly drives to Worcester to take in a Worcester Red Sox game with his family.

Carroll was an avid reader. A fixture at the Fitchburg public library, he greatly enjoyed trips to the library, taking out many books and spending hours in his favorite recliner reading.

He was particularly fond of his 2 granddaughters. At a moment’s notice was always willing to babysit, pick them up at school, and spend quality time visiting them. As they grew older, he was so proud to attend their marching band shows and musical recitalsin both high school and college.

Carroll is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathleen Shouse (Berger): son Mathew and his wife Brenda; son Daniel and his wife Kristin; brother William Shouse and his wife Patricia; and his granddaughters Elizabeth and Emily, step grandsons Taylor, Jeffrey, and Andrew.

Calling hours are Friday morning from 9:30 until 10: 30 at the funeral home . A committal service will follow beginning at 11a.m. All are welcome to attend. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery after the service.
