Catherine J. (Turner) Schultz, 63 years old, died peacefully on Thursday morning, September 27, in her home in Fitchburg after a brave battle with brain cancer.
Cate was born in Clinton, Massachusetts on June 27, 1955 to the late Lilly (Johnson) Turner and Wesley Turner. She is survived by her husband Bernie Schultz III, four daughters Laura Schultz of Leominster, Nina Schultz and partner Jason Morse of Fitchburg, Emily Schultz and fiancée Ryan Smith of Keene, N.H., Rachel McCullough and husband Cullen of Spencer, MA, and grandchildren Isabelle, Matthew, and Benjamin. Additionally, Cate is survived by her sister Barbara Sacco and husband Jerry, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Diane Ridlon.
Cate grew up in Lancaster, Massachusetts and was a 1973 graduate of Nashoba Regional High School where she was All State in Chorus. Cate attended Fitchburg State College before starting a short working career as a secretary at the former Erna Plastics in Leominster and a teacher’s aide at the Busy Bee Preschool Center in Fitchburg. She spent most of her life raising her children and enjoying the company of her family, including her three precious grandchildren. Cate was a talented artist, from painting wall murals to designing personalized board games. In addition to loving music, Cate also enjoyed literature. Before her illness, she spent a year and a half co-writing a novel with one of her lifelong best friends, Pam Denny. In addition to Pam, her other lifelong best friends, Adele Martin and Colleen Champagne, remained devoted to Cate for the duration of her life.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 with a Mass @ 11a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA. All friends and relatives are welcome to attend. There are no calling hours. The Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home ,99 Summer St. is directing.
