Daniel D. (Danny) Richard 

Of Ashburnham, MA.  Passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on Saturday,  November 1,2025 in Fitchburg Healthcare from Lewy Body Dementia.

  Danny was born February 19, 1947, in Fitchburg MA, the son of Raymond & Dorilla( LeBlanc) Richard. 

This is his  "Dash" and It Matters! 

He was a 1965 Graduate of Fitchburg High School and a US Army Vietnam Veteran. He Worked at the former Fitchburg Paper Co, Ft. Devens  until their closure, and the Fitchburg School Dept. as a Custodian at the Original FHS. He then worked for the City of Fitchburg in the Treasurers' Department retiring from The Water Department.

Danny was involved with the Pal Joey's men’s softball team and the 1978 State Champs Banner Mold  team . He coached St. Joes' CYC basketball and umpired  Ashburnham Little League. He was a life member of both The K of C #99 and VFW 905, as well as a member of The  Friends of Coggshall. He was a former member of the Fitchburg Veterans Council and The New Patriots Outreach Center. 

Danny enjoyed volunteering for the Vietnam Veterans Wall that Heals, Toys for Tots, Wreaths Across America at The Winchendon Veterans Cemetery,  and helping with the American Challenger Little League Banquet with the family.  Danny loved to support fundraisers to help anyone in need.

He and his wife Ellen loved to travel, go to the Casino or the Track, and go to Patriots  and Red Sox Games.  He was a true "Die Hard" New England Sports Fan. Danny also enjoyed watching FHS Football games at Crocker and basketball at the Brickyard with his brother.  

Danny loved hosting the Annual Family 4th of July Party "at Camp," as his mother in-law called it.

Danny is survived by his wife, Ellen L. (Haley) Richard , his sister and brother-in-law, Arlene LeBlanc & Ralph, and his in-laws Johnny Haley, Michael Haley & his wife Sharon , Joanne Kelly, Bobby & Judy Haley, and Margaret Cunningham along with many nieces and nephews. Danny is preceded by his parents, his best friend and younger brother, Ronald Richard and his wife, Maria, his mother-in-law, Peggy Haley and in-laws Britta Haley, Tom Kelly, & Billy (Buckwheat)Cunningham. 

The Calling Hours will be Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 2pm - 4pm at the funeral home. His Funeral will be held on Monday, November 10,2025 with a Mass at St. Joseph's Church 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg, MA  at 11:00 am , followed by interment at the Winchendon Veterans Cemetery 111 Glenallen St. at 1:00 pm  All are welcome to attend. 

In Honor of Danny being A True New England Sports Fan, we ask that you all wear your favorite New England Sports Team shirt to his wake, if you ever saw Danny out and about, he only wore Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics or Bruins Shirts , Sweatshirts or Jackets.
