Obituary
Deerfield Beach, Florida : Daniel J. Secino Jr. , 96 , of Deerfield Beach, Florida and a former resident of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully in Broward Medical Center on September 22,2021 after a brief illness.
He was born March 20, 1925 in Fitchburg, MA son of Daniel J. Secino Sr and Jeannette ( Di Geronimo) Secino. He was predeceased by the love of his life for 60 years, and the “girl next door”, Phyllis (Ciccolini) Secino in 2012.
He will be forever missed and loved by his family. He leaves his daughters, Sharon McCluskey and husband Stephen of Fitchburg, MA, Janice Secino and husband Dennis Nadeau of Pompano Beach, Florida , and his son Gary Romero and husband Bruce Romero of Parker, Colorado, his granddaughter , and the light of his life, Stephanie Racine and her husband Jeremy of Leominster, MA. He also leaves his sister, Rosalie Kifer and a brother Joseph Secino and his wife Pauline along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He graduated from Fitchburg High School Class of 1943. He then was drafted into the service in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps in the 422nd Bomb Sq 305 Bomb Group. He fought in the Northern France, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was the lead mechanic for the B 17’s. He was awarded the European campaign ribbon and victory medal and was honorably discharged a CPL in 1945.
Dan completed his education at Cushing Academy Class of 1947 and at Worcester Junior College and received his Associates Degree in Business in 1952. He joined Godins 5&10 Store in 1952 and worked as there as a supervisor for 28 years. He also worked at the former Anwelt Shoe Co. in Fitchburg, MA as a bookkeeper and also at the former Casual Male Store.
Dan and his wife Phyllis both retired and moved to Florida for a “12 year vacation” as they called it , until their granddaughter, Stephanie was born in 1991. They moved back to Fitchburg to be closer to her. They lived at the Bella Vista in Fitchburg where he was known for his decorating skills and refinishing furniture for their famous yard sales. He also enjoyed swimming, reading, ballroom dancing with his wife Phyllis, and in later years , oil painting and wreath making.
Dan had recently moved back to Florida where he had always loved the warmth and the ocean.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 9,2021 @ 10:30 am in the Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St. Fitchburg, MA. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Fitchburg. A calling hour will be held prior to his service from 9:30 until 10:30a.m. and all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to: St. Anthony De Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Fitchburg, MA, 01420.
