Obituary Notice
Athol, MA: David G. Rivers recently of Athol, MA and a lifelong resident of Fitchburg, MA passed away after a battle with cancer.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Caryn Rivers of Leominster, MA and his grandson, Johnathan Rivers ( Sondra) of Raeford, NC.
He leaves his two daughters, Michelle (Holloway) Creaven (Glenn) of Leominster,MA , and Sarah (Holloway) Carr (Jeremy) of East Greenwich, RI., grandchildren, Caleb, Sawyer, and Audrey Carr of East Greenwich, RI, Kaylah and Sydney Creaven of Leominster, MA and two great granddaughters, Lina and Charlotte of Raeford, NC. He also leaves his friend and former spouse of many years, Marian Rivers. Dave was predeceased by his son Brian D. Rivers in 2016.
Dave was a lifelong musician and technician. His musical career spanned 6 decades, and he covered all genres of music from Country to Rock and Reggae. His band, The Bristols had a chart hit in 1967 and he has opened for the Ventures and performed at Mohegan Sun . Music was his passion and vocation.
He started work at Simplex Time Recorder in his early twenties but the early hours they required and the late nights that kept he kept as a musician didn’t work so well and after 6 years he was invited to leave.
He then worked for many years at Fitchburg Music, eventually owning the store and moving it to Leominster where the name was changed to FM Music. After selling the store, he worked at Action Music, which later became City Music until her retired.
Dave was well known in the area music scenes as the kind of guy that would help you with equipment, repair or someone to sit in if you were short a player until his illness made it impossible.
He was a kind and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be calling hours held at the funeral home for Dave on Friday, February 9,2024 from 4 until 6 p.m. All relatives and friends are welcome to attend.
His family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to: Second Chance Animals.org , in Dave’s name.
