DORIS HURLEY

Doris Hurley died after an illness on Monday, April 25 at the Highlands in Fitchburg, MA.
Doris was born on January 30,1932 in Fitchburg, MA to James and Hazel (Alwis) Vicary. She was raised in the Waites Corner section of West Fitchburg. She attended Fitchburg Public Schools.
At an early age Doris began raising her young family. She described her three children in this way. Dick her first born was her best eater, Kevin her second son was her best sleeper and after 10 years Pam was born and is the girl she always wanted. Not only were they mother and daughter, they were best friends.
Doris was always proud to be a homemaker. She loved taking care of her children and the house on Appleton Circle. She was a talented decorator of the places where she lived, she could paint and wallpaper as good or better than professionals. She enjoyed keeping her house spotless and when a family member entered the house she could be heard shouting “take off your shoes in the hall, I don’t want you tracking mud and sand throughout the house.” She was also skilled in balancing a budget, unfortunately for us kids we never achieved the skill she possessed.
Doris had many jobs over the years, including a nurse aide at Burbank
Hospital, she worked a various manufacturing companies and also in the food and hospitality industry throughout the area. But her favorite job was taking care of her home and family.
For recreation, she loved to walk, read, and crochet. Her friends throughout her life including Theresa Paul, and Barbara Lidberg (deceased) and the many friends she made having coffee at MacDonald’s or the Grill at Parkhill. She loved the ocean whether at Cape Cod or at Ogunquit, Me.
Doris is survived by Richard and Mary Ellen Hurley, Kevin and Denise Hurley, and Pam and Wayne Casavoy. Her grandchildren, Johanna Wilson, Padraig, and Keiran Gilman, Sabbra Reyes, and was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Hurley. She is also survived by 14 great-grand children. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 17,2022 from 10 until 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service in Forest Hill Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
