HUBBARDSTON – Elaine M. (Lavoie) Therrien passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Thursday, August 7th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, surrounded by her devoted family. She is survived by her loving and supportive husband of 61 years, Laurent Therrien; her son, Craig Therrien and his wife Karen of North Brookfield, daughter, Karen Mossey and her husband, Stephen, of Hubbardston; her three beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Mossey, Sarah Mossey, and Michael Therrien; and her sisters Claire Lincoln of Leominster and Beverly Lavoie of Uncasville, CT; brothers, Ernie Lavoie of Hull, MA and Roger Lavoie of Winthrop, MA. She was predeceased by her brother John Lavoie of Philadelphia, PA.
Elaine was born in Fitchburg, MA, on June 14, 1945, the daughter of the late John & Dorothy (Legere) Lavoie. She was raised in Fitchburg, MA, and graduated from Saint Bernard’s High School. One of six siblings, Elaine cherished family above all else. She found great joy in her grandchildren, spending time with her family, and celebrating the holidays together. Elaine enjoyed the arts; and was very skilled in painting, sewing, doing cross-stitch, needlepoint and knitting. She gifted many people with pieces of her handiwork. When she retired, she learned to knit and was part of a group who donated their work to the homeless. Elaine also enjoyed hosting others and was an excellent cook and baker. She was a gracious woman who loved her Savior well and was always willing to serve others.
For the majority of her career, Elaine worked as an administrative assistant for several companies, including Fitchburg Paper, Digital Equipment Corp., and Staples headquarters in Framingham, MA. She was a true team member and was always willing to do whatever was asked of her.
The family wishes to thank her cousin Anita for the many times of assistance as well as VNA Care Hospice for the excellent care they provided Elaine, especially Miriam, Shelia, and Nicole.
The viewing and memorial service for Elaine will be held on Wednesday, August 13th at the Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home 99 Summer Street in Fitchburg, MA. A calling hour will be held starting at 10 AM with a memorial service following at 11 AM. Elaine will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Hubbardston, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at /www.stjude.org/.
