Obituary

FITCHBURG – Gladys Mary (LeBlanc) Sarasin (age 92) of Fitchburg passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Oakdale Rehabilitation Center, West Boylston after an illness.  Born in Fitchburg on May 19, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Cecile (Girouard) LeBlanc.  She graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1950 and attended Becker Junior College in 1951.  She was the secretary/bookkeeper at Notre Dame Preparatory School for over 20 years.

Gladys was an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church and later St. Joseph's Church.  She was a prayerful person who loved cooking, reading, and gatherings with family and friends.  She was an avid follower of Boston sports teams.  She enjoyed being involved with school and church functions and events.  She was a proud supporter to various causes, especially to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Joseph's Church. 

 

She is survived by her nine children, Michael and his wife Diane of Salisbury, Richard of Fitchburg, Linda Acerbi and her husband Mario of Crawfordville, FL, Robert and his wife Dianne of Fitchburg, Daniel and his partner Julie Bagdonas of Westminster, Thomas and his wife Cheryl of Fitchburg, Carol Lamothe of Fitchburg, John and his wife Heather of Ashburnham, and Steven and his partner Virginia Centauro of Ashburnham. 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Therese (Sarasin) Gauvin, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Norman “Sudsy” Sarasin who died in 1976, and two brothers Louis LeBlanc who died in 2003, and Emile LeBlanc who died in 2004, all of Fitchburg.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Gladys' life on Friday, November 17, 2023 (her wedding anniversary) at 4-6 pm at the Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg MA.  A Funeral Mass will be held  on Saturday, November 18,2023 @ 12noon in St. Joseph’s Church 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg, MA. Committal  prayers will follow in the Pieta Chapel  at St. Joseph’s Cemetery 486 Clarendon St. Fitchburg, MA.All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul or a charity of one's choice.
