Irene Normandin Obituary

OBITUARY – Leominster, MA., Irene C Normandin (Lizotte) 104 yrs. old

Another star shines brightly in the heavens with the passing of Irene C Normandin (Lizotte) in   Leominster Hospital, on March 26,2024, under the care of Health Alliance Hospice.

She was born in Fitchburg, the seventh of nine children on December 27,1919 to Henry A & Emma M. (Landry) Lizotte.

She attended Fitchburg schools until she was 16 years old, leaving to help her family by becoming a Blue Maid at Burbank Hospital. She then got a job at Crocker Burbank Paper Co. in the cutting room where she met her future husband Gerard J Normandin.  They married in 1942 and had 2 daughters, Denise A and Jean R.  They lived in Fitchburg until 1967 moving to Westminster enjoying the view of Wachusett Mountain from Academy Hill.

After Gerry passed,Irene remained in Westminster working until her retirement from the Digital Corp.  After her retirement she followed her passion of ballroom dancing @ Wonderland Ballroom in Revere, MA. having several dancing partners. Always busy, Irene enjoyed these years and continued to pursue her love of crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, hooking or braiding rugs, baking, making and eating candy as well as keeping her yard beautifully manicured.  During these years she also went back to school to receive her GED.

In 1999 she moved to Liberty Place in Leominster where she lived independently until 2020, when at 100, unsteadiness & falls prompted her to make the decision to live out her remaining years @ Sterling Village Nursing Facility. You would find her making her bed daily, reading books by Danielle Steele, doing word search puzzles, and watching game shows.

Her greatest joys in life were her loving family, trips to Hampton Beach, Ballroom Dancing, watching the Wheel of Fortune and having her hair done every 2 weeks, always meticulous about her appearance.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Rizzo and her spouse, Susan Hirschfield, granddaughters Angela Stenuis (Martin), Lauri Rizzo (Nick Monaco) and great granddaughter, Emma L. Stenuis, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Gerard J Normandin (1972), her daughter Denise Rawlings (2022) and siblings, M LillianLizotte, Lucille Baum, Estelle Desrosiers, Laura Begnoche, Raymond, Louis, Clarence (Red), and Lionel Lizotte.

The last of her generation, she returns Home with great Love, as she dances among the angels in Everlasting Life.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful and caring staff @ Sterling Village who provided for her needs during her final years.

Also, thank you to the staff in the ED and Telemetry Unit as well as the Health Alliance Home Health & Hospice who blessed my mother and our family with exceptional care and compassion while at Leominster Hospital.
