James "Jim" Scaficchia Obituary

James “Jim” Scaficchia, affectionately known by close friends as “Jungle”, of Fitchburg, MA passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024. He was born September 13, 1950, in Fitchburg, the son of the late Mario and Angela (Larocca) Scaficchia. He was a 1968 graduate of Fitchburg High School and a 1970 graduate of Mount Wachusett Community College. Jim served in the Army National Guard. He was a proud licensed electrician, and at one point served as president of his local IBEW 96. Later in life, he worked at the Fitchburg Y.M.C.A. for 15 years, as well as Romano’s Greenhouse. Jim could fix most things and had a green thumb. He loved to spend time in his garden tending to his vegetables, plants, and flowers. A passionate sports fan, Jim loved to watch, read, and converse with friends about the Celtics, Red Sox, and New England Patriots. A self-proclaimed “Dead Head” since 1971, Jim enjoyed a warm summer evening with a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon, listening to the Grateful Dead and other 70’s rock and roll. He also enjoyed the beaches of Eastham, MA, live music, cooking on the grill, ziti with lines, and Paisano wine. Jim’s life was characterized by his strong work ethic, perseverance, persistence, and love and loyalty for his family and friends (Better known as “The Fools”). He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy (O’Connor) Scaficchia of Fitchburg, MA, daughter Jillian Scaficchia of Harwich Port, MA, daughter Nina Scaficchia of Fitchburg, MA, and son Vincent Scaficchia and daughter-in-law Brianna (DiFronzo) of South Hadley, MA. He is also survived by his sister Donna and her husband Peter Caron of Princeton, MA, and nieces Melissa Ghiringhelli and Tracy Ward. The family would like to thank the many staff members at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA., especially the compassionate staff of the Oncology Unit who provided great humor and excellent care in Jim’s final weeks.
