                                                        Obituary

Fitchburg:  John E. Nikander,80 of Fitchburg, MA passed away in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital Monday , December 13,2021 with his family at his side.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA  November 12, 1941 the son of Waino and Elina (Kajutti) Nikander and John lived all of his life in Fitchburg.

He attended and graduated from Fitchburg High School Class of 1959.Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in October of 1959. He served  until 1963 as a Radio Man  and was honorably discharged in 1963.

John had an extensive working career at the former Victory Supermarket. He worked there for 40 years ending as a store manager retiring in 2002.

In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garden and going hunting. He was a life member of the Eastwood Club  and a member of the Fitchburg Sportsman’s Club both in Fitchburg.

He is survived by the love of his life, Betty (LeBlanc) Nikander who he was married to for 60 years, his two sons, John E. Nikander Jr. and his wife Melissa of Fitchburg, MA and Wayne P. Nikander and wife Jane of Brookline, NH, four grandchildren Derek, Nicole Erik and Troy Nikander and one great granddaughter Elina. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Fred Nikander.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday December 16,2021 from 5 until 7p.m. A Graveside service is on Friday December 17,2021 @ 11a.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA  . All relatives and friends are welcome to attend.
