It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph A. Sansossio, a beloved member of the Fitchburg, Massachusetts community. Joseph passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Joseph was born on May 17, 1931, in Natick, Massachusetts, to proud parents Antonio and Rose Sansossio. He was raised in Fitchburg, where he attended local schools and developed a strong passion for sports.
After graduating from Fitchburg High School in Joseph enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was awarded two Bronze stars while serving his country. After being discharged he returned to Fitchburg, where he began a career in the manufacturing industry and later on as an electrician at Digital Equipment Corporation in Littleton.
Joseph was a devoted husband to his wife, Domenica,whom he married in 1952. Together, they raised three children, Karen, Michelle, and Joseph. He was a dedicated and loving father who always put his family first. Joseph was also a loyal friend, and he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued.
In his free time, Joseph had a passion for jazz music of the big band era, watching sports, especially his beloved Boston Celtics, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joseph will be remembered for his kind spirit, his unwavering commitment to his family and friends, and his love of music and sports.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Karen and her husband James Guenette of Fitchburg, Michelle and her husband Peter Baker of Westwood, and his son Joseph Sansossio and his wife Barbara and their two children Ryan and Alyssa. “Uncle Joe” also leaves many nieces, nephews and their sons and daughters. He loved us all.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 25, from Lavery-Chartrand-Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony di Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April24, in the funeral home.
