Fitchburg: Josephine Belli, 94, of Fitchburg, MA
Josephine was born in Fitchburg, MA, the daughter of Nazzareno and Maria Belli and was raised and lived in Fitchburg most of her life before moving to Leominster, MA in 1996.
Josephine was a graduate of St. Bernard Central Catholic High School, class of 1947.She went to work at Ralph S. Foster &Sons Insurance/Real Estate company for 18 yearsafter which she enrolled in Fitchburg State College as a fulltime student and graduated with her Bachelors of Science Degree in 1965. She went on to study at Framingham State College and received her Masters Degree in Social Studies in 1968. She taught school in the Framingham and Fitchburg School systems for 27 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Retired Educators of MA (R.E.A.M.) and also a life member of Massachusetts Retired Teachers, and NEA Retired Teachers.
Josephine was an active associate of the Sisters of St. Anne, Marlboro, MA, a lifetime member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fitchburg, MA. She was also a Eucharistic minister for the homebound.
She was a volunteer at Our Father’s Table, Diocese Commission for Women, and Camp Xavier. Josephine was a very giving person who often helped people silently, without recognition. Some of her generosity included missionary trips to Haiti and New Orleans.
She enjoyed traveling with her many nieces and nephews, reading, and skiing. She was often in touch with her nieces and nephews, writing to them supporting their academic achievements.
She is survived by her two sisters, Catherine M. Pandiscio, of Lexington, MA and Mary Ann Cormier of Sterling, MA, fifteen nieces and nephews, the joy of her life, many grandnieces and grandnephews, and great grandnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Dino M. Belli of Culver City, CA in 2003 and John J. Belli of Fitchburg, MA in 2005.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Fitchburg, MA @ 11a.m.
Interment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA
A calling hour will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 until 10:30a.m. All are welcome to attend.
