Josephine Yapchian Obituary

Josephine “Josie” (Antocci) Yapchian formerly of Fitchburg and Leominster passed away on February 1st at the JML Care Center in Falmouth MA at age of 100.

Known for her warm smile and stylish attire, her husband said he fell in love with “The girl whose eyes disappeared when she smiled.”

A magnetic smile is a genuine, warm and engaging expression that effortlessly draws people in, projecting confidence, friendliness and high energy charisma. It is not merely a physical act but a reflection of inner positivity and sincerity, making others feel safe, happy and comfortable in the person's presence. That perfectly describes Josie.

A few months ago when asked what was her biggest achievement in life was she replied having her children. Her biggest regret, not getting a driver’s license sooner. May we all be as fortunate as she was to have lived a long full life with little regret.

Josie was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fitchburg. Her working years were spent at Iandoli Supermarket, Amore Comb and volunteering at ProHealth Clinic. She enjoyed cooking and baking and shared many meals and desserts with family and friends. One Thanksgiving she made 12 different pies to treat her guests with all their favorites. Her favorite pastime was shopping and going out for breakfast or lunch with her many friends and family over the years.

She leaves behind her daughter Karen Caponi and son in law Art of Sandwich MA with whom she lived, her son Edward Yapchian and daughter in law Marianne of Rindge NH and her daughter Susan Renaud and son in law Denis of Winchendon MA. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Yapchian, former Fitchburg firefighter, daughter Carol Harrington, granddaughter Michele Renaud and siblings Frances Santangelo, Mary VivoAmore Riggins, Joseph Antocci, Carmelo Antocci and Paul Antocci. She is survived by 3 grandsons Shawn Harrington, Jason Harrington and Craig Renaud. She is also survived by several great grandchildren and recently became a great great grandmother. She leaves behind close relationships with her niece Maryann Streater and friends Diane Macchio and Vicky Zarrella.

Per her request, private services will be held at the Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home.

In her memory, give someone a smile today. She would have wanted to be remembered that way.
