Laura L. Colburn (Fannon) age 63 of Lunenburg, MA, passed away December 11 at HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital Leominster surrounded by family members after a courageous year long battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Laura was born in Pittsfield, MA on February 22, 1960, the youngest child of Harold and Dorothy (Ouellette) Fannon. After completing high school in Pittsfield, she went on to graduate college from Fitchburg State and began her career in human services. Laura worked at Matson Community Services, Inc. and stayed with the organization through its mergers, now known as The Arc of Opportunity in North Central Massachusetts. During her 30-year career there she advanced to the role of Chief Operating Officer, making lifelong friends with both the individuals with disabilities she worked with and her coworkers.
Laura loved to travel, spending summers in Kennebunk and winters in Florida or visiting her family in the Southwest. She made deep rooted friendships with neighbors in Lunenburg and Kennebunk, treating her friends as family.
Most importantly, Laura had a special way of putting others’ needs ahead of her own. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother and a favorite aunt to many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Laura celebrated 31 years of marriage to her husband, Skip Colburn prior to his passing in December 2018.She was also predeceased by her parents and a brother, Thomas Fannon of Las Vegas, NV.
She leaves her stepdaughter, Melissa Lyonnais and husband Edward of Peabody; her loving companion and caregiver Bob Eden of Lunenburg;three brothers, Herbert (Jim) Fannon and his wife, Wanda, Alfred (Fred) Fannon and his wife, Deborah, all of Las Vegas, NV., Patrick Fannon and his companion, Sabrina Conners from Pittsfield MA., and a sister; Mary Hollingsworth and her husband, Mark from Kingman, AZ., along with her nieces and nephews.
“Laura my warrior, you light up my life”. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her forever.
Services will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Sinon-Simond Regional Cancer Center, 275 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420 or a cancer organization of your choosing.
