                                              Obituary Notice

                 Fitchburg: Philip D. McDermott, 83 of Fitchburg, MA passed away peacefully on January 27,2024 in UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA after an extended illness.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA on March 18,1940 the son of Esther (Read) McDermott and Daniel J. McDermott and lived in Fitchburg all of his life. He was a graduate of Fitchburg High School . Phil enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps in 1958 and served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1962.

Phil worked many years as a steeplejack for Skyline Engineering retiring several years ago. He was an avid golfer and loved his cats (Missy).His wit and humor was legendary.

He is survived by his longtime partner Laura M. Rohrback, his son Patrick McDermott and his wife Joanne of Harlingen, Texas, grandchildren, Jesse, Micah, Benjamin, and Bethany McDermott of Texas, his daughter, Tracy Limoges of Beverly, MA and her children, and a step-grandson, Troy Caissie along with many nieces and nephews.  He also leaves his brothers, Paul McDermott and his wife Joan of Fitchburg, MA, Peter McDermott and wife Marion of Sterling, MA, Matthew McDermott of Cape Cod, Daniel McDermott and his wife Debra of Fitchburg, MA ,and his sister Catherine Mason of Ashby, MA . He also leaves his former wife Elise (Caissie) McDermott of Fitchburg, MA. He was predeceased by his brothers, James McDermott and Thomas McDermott a brother-in-law Peter Mason, and a step-daughter Jo-Ann Caissie   

Services will be private at the request of his family. He will be Interred in Massachusetts Veteran’s Cemetery, Winchendon , MA. with Military Honors.
