Obituary

Richard W. Burchstead, 92, of Leominster MA, died peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday May 3, 2023.

Dick was born in Leominster MA on September 9, 1930 to Warren and Lillian(McDonald)Burchstead. Dick was Leominster High graduate and Korean War veteran. Dick was a longtime member and past officer of the Serra Club Worcester North and was an avid gardener. If you look up “dry sense of humor’ you’ll find a photo of Dick. To the end, he was making jokes with hospital staff and family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa (Rocheleau) Burchstead and their daughters Jody (Burchstead) LaFerriere and her partner Thomas Giarrosso, and Debra (Burchstead) Sojka and her husband Robert. He is also survived by the three people who were the lights of his life, his grandchildren Michael LaFerriere, Peter Sojka and Ellen Sojka.

Dick was pre-deceased by an infant son, Michael Burchstead, his parents and his siblings Rachael Gantt, Barbara Bovenzi, Gerald Burchstead, and Sharon Chartrand.

Funeral services will be private. A memorial Mass will be held at a later time.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Serra Club via
