Robert Lee Turney

Robert Lee Turney, 80, of Fitchburg MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on October 16th, 2022. 

Robert was born September 27,1942 in Springfield Illinois, to Simon and Mary (Dorance) Turney. 

After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army to serve in three tours during the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged in 1973 just shy of 14 years of service. 

Robert was a security guard for the former Digital Equipment Corp where he retired from and began his own private investigation business. 

            Robert was known by his family as an avid lover of animals and spent most of his down time with his pet dogs and cats. Also, he had a great love for working on cars. Robert was a generous and loving husband, father, and grandfather. 

Robert leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Joy E. (Violette) Turney, and three children. Tina Gilbert and husband James Gilbert, David Shepard and wife Lynn Shepard, and Michael Shepard and wife Marie Shepard. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren. Timothy Gilbert, Philip Gilbert, Rebecca Gilbert, Alexander Gilbert, Joshua Shepard, Jacob Shepard, Jared Shepard, Nathan Shepard, Caitlyn Shepard, and one great grandson Vincent Gilbert. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday November 3,2022 @ 9:30 at St. Joseph’s Church in Fitchburg, MA. With interment to follow at Massachusetts Veteran Cemetery in Winchendon, MA with military honors.. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s foundation of America.
