Robert V. Maxfield

Robert V Maxfield of Fitchburg, MA passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Tuesday November 11, 2025

Robert was born in Leominster MA. on May 22,1936 the son of Edgar & Helen (Bedard) Maxfield

He graduated from Leominster Trade High School where he learned woodworking and made a couple of beautiful pieces of furniture that they had in their home for 65 years.

Robert started working while in high school at a grocery store in Leominster. His friend Guy Cote was dating my mom’s sister Sylvia. They introduced my mom to my dad at the grocery store.

Robert & MaryJane were married on April 19, 1958. 

Robert worked for an Armed Carrier Company before his 30 years in the Fitchburg Paper Mills. He worked at Weyerhaeuser Paper, Crocker Paper and James River, until it closed in 1988. He then went on to work in the Fitchburg School system for 10 years as a custodian – retiring at the age of 62.

He leaves 2 children, Dennis Maxfield his wife Tammy & Carrie Barrett and her partner Michael McMurray. He also leaves 5 grandchildren; Tanya Robichaud (Brent), Dennis Maxfield, Lindsay Pandiscio (Kim), Nicholas Barrett (Jasah), Bobby Barrett (Kim). He leaves 7 great-grandchildren; Aidan, Jamison, Mia, Jaeda, Blake, Olivia & Jacob

Robert is pre-deceased by his parents, his wife MaryJane, and his brother Edgar Maxfield.

Robert & MaryJane enjoyed some traveling to Aruba, Las Vegas & Florida. They also spent many summer vacations in Cape Cod and later Wells, Maine.  He also enjoyed watching the red sox, the Patriots and NASCAR.  He also spent many weekends going racing with Dennis to Hudson Speedway, Monadnock and Thompson Speedway to watch him race in his Dunkin Donuts stock car!

We would like to thank the staff at The Gables for the care they have given to our Dad for the past 23 months.  We would also like to thank the ICU staff at UMass Marlboro for the compassionate care they gave to our Dad in his final hours.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society.

A funeral Mass for Robert will be held on Thursday, November 20,2025 @ 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Parish @St Camillus De Lellis Church 333 Mechanic St. Fitchburg, MA. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery Fitchburg, MA

All friends and relatives are welcome to attend and should meet at the church on Thursday.. There are no calling hours.
