Obituary Notice
Fitchburg: Roland L. Rouleau passed away on June 7,2023 at home in the arms of his loving wife, Peggy.
Roland was born in Fitchburg, MA on July 25,1924, son of the late Leon and Cecile (Dufault) Rouleau, who bought the family home in 1939. Roland was a devout Catholic, attending the former Immaculate Conception and currently St. Joseph’s Churches.
Roland enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps at the age of 18. He proudly served his country from April 1943 until January 1946. He served as a Gun CrewmanMed. Artillery Carbine Sharpshooter in New Guinea and the Philippines, earning the rank of Corporal Tec 5 and awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal and Bronze Star. After his service time , he went to work at Independent Lock, Standard Tool and retired from Stan Cast in 1990.
Roland leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 75 years, M. Margaret “Peggy“ (Richard ) Rouleau whom he married on November 27,1947 (Thanksgiving Day) You knew it was warming up when you saw him and Peggy playing Cribbage on his porch. Roland was a hard-working and loving father to his sons: Bryan Rouleau and partner Bella Brown of Zephyrhills, Florida, Michael Rouleau and wife Darlene (Valiton) Rouleau of Fitchburg, MA, James Rouleau and wife Debi (Wojnas) of Hudson, MA, and one daughter , Cathy Doe and her partner Stephen Smith of Topsfield, MA. He was predeceased by his son Denis Rouleau.
Roland was known as “Pepere” to his loving grandchildren: Marc Rouleau and wife Lorna of Westminster, MA, Jennifer (Rouleau) and husband Todd Rushton of Beverly, MA ,Crystal (Doe) and husband Corey Capsalis of Tolland , CT, the late Nathan Doe and his partner Tamara Bisson of Winchendon, MA and Jesse Doe of Fitchburg,MA , his great grandchildren , Iridia Rouleau, Alex Rouleau, Ty Rushton, Shyann Doe, Logan Doe, Silas Doe, Carter Capsalis, and the late Jiovanni Collazo-Doe. His brothers Philip Rouleau and his deceased wife , Geraldine, Donald Rouleau and wife Annemarie all of Fitchburg, MA, his sister, Joyce (Rouleau) and husband Raymond Cote of Lunenburg, MA and many nieces, and nephews who loved him and will miss him so very much.
Roland was predeceased by his brothers Normand Rouleau, Gerald Rouleau, Emery Rouleau and his wife Theresa (Rouleau), his sisters Theresa (Rouleau) and her husband Michael Caravella, Anita (Rouleau) and her husband Joseph Gagne of Leominster, MA. The Rouleau family would like to thank the VNA/Hospice for the attentive care given to Roland and Peggy.
A funeral Mass will b held on Wednesday, June 14,2023 @ 11a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg. A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the funeral home from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Joseph’ Church 49 Woodland St. Fitchburg, MA 01420
