Obituary Notice
Leominster: Ruth W. Desmarais (Butt) , 93 of Leominster,MA passed away peacefully on March 3,2025 with her family at her side.
Ruth was born July 6, 1931 to father, Edward “Ned” Butt and mother, A. Wylda (Jackson) Butt and was sister to Edward “Bob” Butt.
Ruth graduated from Melrose High School class of 1949. She married her husband Warner E. Desmarais, who adored her in 1954. They were married for 61 years before his passing in 2015.
Ruth was a banking professional, working for 20 years as a loan officer and assistant to the vice president at the former Beverly Savings Bank, from which she retired in 1991. At the same time she developed herself professionally, Ruth raised 3 children in Danvers, MA, She is predeceased by her daughter Polly E. Immonen (Desmarais) and Jon E. Desmarais and is survived by her daughter Lynne A. LeBlanc and her husband Larry (Lawrence). She has four grandchildren, Jared, Sawyer, Jon, and Victoria, and two great grandchildren, Lincoln and Fia.
Ruth proudly served as Director of Red Cross of Beverly, MA and was President of the Savings Bank women of Northeast Massachusetts. She was a member of the VFW auxiliary to Townsend Post #6538. Ruth later lived in Wolfeboro, NH and St. Augustine, Florida during her retirement years.
Ruth loved cooking, decorating, and entertaining in her home. Ruth made and especially delicious chocolate sauce to put on top of ice cream to which she would serve to her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they would visit. Ruth had many hobbies like gardening- she had an incredible green thumb. She was phenomenal at watercolor painting and loved to gift her beautiful paintings to those who were special to her. Ruth was a savvy Fan(atic) of the New England Patriots and NASCAR. Her family knew not to call her during these events. Ruth also loved to knit and passed this skill on to her granddaughter , Victoria.
Ruth lived a full honorable life, not without heartache but, always with a positive outlook. She always had a kind word for loved ones and even strangers.

Services for Ruth will be held on Friday, March 21,2025 with visitation at the funeral home from 11a.m. until 12 noon followed by a funeral service beginning at noon. Her Inurnment will be held at a later date in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers, MA.
