Sandra E. Cucchiara (Descarreaux), 77, of Fitchburg, passed away on September 22, 2024 peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital after a prolonged illness.
Sandi was born in Fitchburg in 1947 to Raymond and Anna Descarreaux. She married Dennis Cucchiara in June of 1966 and they shared 58 years together. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Working part-time here and there during her married life, her primary focus was her family. She was always home for her kids and always ready to listen to their stories. She shared the Descarreaux passion for baking, and would create elaborate trays of Christmas cookies or whatever seemed interesting. Sandi loved reading and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed cross stitch, where her artistry and perfectionism were on display! For many years she was an avid Red Sox fan, carefully keeping statistical records of her favorite players. She was an animal lover, caring for an assortment of cats over the years, and watching shows about animals, especially her favorite… monkeys!!
Among her favorite life experiences were the many vacations she and Dennis took, especially the trips to her beloved York Beach in Maine where the two made lasting friendships. Throughout their life together the two spent many weeks in Maine, soaking in the sun, the peaceful sounds of the ocean, and enjoying each other’s company.
Sandi leaves her husband Dennis Cucchiara, her sons, Chris and Craig, her grandchildren Chelsey, Luca, Emma, Leila, and Isobel, and her great granddaughter Alivia. In addition she leaves her sisters Carol Stone, Donna Brazier, Janis (Norman) Ledger, Ruth Byrne, and brother Dana (Robin) Descarreaux and many nieces and nephews.
