Scott Blake Obituary

Scott Michael Blake (1960–2025), 64, of Fitchburg, MA, grooved his way out of this life and into the next on May 9, 2025, surrounded by love and music, following a brief but aggressive clash with dirty, rotten cancer. Scott, Scotty, Dad, Pank, Toast, Grampy, Leggo, Uncle Potty, or Uncle Chopped Liver will be deeply missed by many. Until his last breath, he protected his family with strength, kindness, and a hand squeeze.

To know Scott was to love him. Gregarious and endlessly caring, this gentle giant never turned down a chance to attend a grandchild’s activity, a round of golf, guitar session, a campfire, or enjoy a well-mixed Mai Tai. His enviable collection of shot glasses, guitar pics, family photos, and golf hats said it all.

Scott’s love of woodworking was forged in the basement workshop of his beloved Grandpa Trottier, in the storied Victorian family home where Scott and wife Michelle spent his final years. That passion led to a lifelong career in cabinetry and design after graduating from Montachusett Regional Technical High School (1978). He enjoyed a long, fulfilling career in this industry, most recently with Koopman Lumber Company, where he took immense pride in being part of the Koopman team and family tradition.

A self-taught guitarist and songster (whose first performance was at age 5 randomly singing on the Stratton Theater stage), Scott was in his element when playing music; with many bands, as a solo artist, or jamming with friends, especially with his music bestie, Jeff. From ripping it up in dive bars with sticky floors at 18 (think Deep Purple “Smoke on the Water”) to playing with countless bands and gigs, to entertaining camp crowds and nursing home octogenarians, music was his lifelong companion. It also bonded him to Michelle, beginning a friendship and love that spanned two decades. Their life together ended too soon, but love endures.

Scott found peace in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and later at Camp Wellville on Lake Winnekeag, where the rustle of trees and a crackling fire brought joy – a joy first learned at Camp Wakitatina with his mom (yup, a Girl Scout camp). That spirit of camping lives on in his children and grandchildren, who will relish his memory when they are under the stars.

A bowling league guy in his younger years turned avid golfer, bowling lanes gave way to golf leagues and tournaments, expanding an ever-widening circle of friends among his treasured golf partners. A passionate player, nothing - except maybe a bad game by the Bruins, Celtics, or Patriots - could get him more riled up than a terrible golf putt or shanking the ball.

Scott is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Anne Stenuis Blake; adoring sister, Bethany Blake and brother-in-law Patrick Kelly of Boxford, MA; children Cassie Lee Blake DeMass (Alan) of Gardner, MA, Marissa Ann Blake Hofstetter (Benjamin) of Lyndeborough, NH, Elizabeth Nicole Victoria of Studio City, CA (partner John Marciano), and Michael James Victoria of New Ipswich, NH. Grandchildren Brynlee and Maddox DeMass, Hannah and Benjamin Hamilton, Connor, Elizabeth, and Abigail Hofstetter. He also leaves behind his Godmother and Aunt Claudette Trottier Vincent (Alan), mother-in-law Maureen Stenuis, Uncle Raymond Trottier (Sally) of Laconia, NH, and his beloved in-laws and their families, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including former wife and lifelong friend Rhonda Goguen Blake of Gardner. What a blessed man he was!

Scott was predeceased by his cherished mother Simone Trottier Blake and father Robert Blake of Fitchburg, and father-in-law Fred Stenuis of New Ipswich, NH, along with many loved ones who shaped his journey.
