SIMONNE (LAVOIE) BOIVIN - 98 Years Old of Fitchburg, MA
In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 22, 2023 our beloved mother Simonne M. (Lavoie) Boivin, 98 years old, left her home in Fitchburg to go to her final resting place with her husband, Ernest and daughter Lisa. She was the 5th child of 13 siblings born on September 30, 1924 to the late Auguste and Regina (Normand) Lavoie of L’Islet, Quebec, Canada.
She remained in Canada working on the family farm and helping care for her brothers and sisters until one day a visitor from Fitchburg, MA came to Canada with a relative of her mom’s. It was love at first sight for Ernest Boivin and Simonne and they were married in L’Islet, Quebec, Canada on June 30, 1948. Following marriage, they returned to the United States where they made their home in Fitchburg at the home owned by the Boivin family and where she remained for 75 years until the passing of her daughter, Lisa.
She arrived in Fitchburg not being able to speak a word of English, but with the help of some close friends, she learned. Simonne worked in several local factories, but the job she enjoyed the most was working for Children’s Aid & Family Service where she was able to work and stay at home with her family. She took care of many children in her 20+ years with the Service, some of whom lived with the family for various periods of time. She loved the children and they loved her. She was affectionately known by Lady or Mrs. B.
Simonne’s greatest joy was her family. She loved caring for them in every way possible. She loved to cook and having family together during the holidays and special occasions or any time, the door was always open. Family vacations to the beach or to visit family in Canadameant a lot to her and her family. Sunday rides after dinner and stopping for ice cream was always something the family enjoyed doing together and will always remember.
She was a lady of small stature and few words, but you knew how much she loved and cared for her family through her actions. Simonne and Ernest were together for 42 years until his passing in September of 1990. Upon his death she remained in her same home where she lived with her daughter Lisa until herpassing in 2006. In 2007 she moved to Fitchburg Green Apartments where she resided until she moved in with her daughter Denise and husband Larry in 2020, a home she loved and enjoyed and where she passed.
One of her favorite things to do other than cooking was ironing. She loved to iron and did so up until several months of her passing. At her daughter’s home she started each day by watching daily mass and sipping on a cup of coffee. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, watching game shows and going out to eat.
She leaves one daughter, Denise Andrews (Larry) of Fitchburg and two sons – Roger (Josephine) of Tacoma, WA and Ronald (Jennifer) of Ashburnham. She also leaves a god daughter that was more of a daughter to her and who called her mom – Diane LeBlanc of Fitchburg. She leaves two sisters: Louise Williams (Paul) and Edith Lavoie both of Canada. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Ernest Boivin, her daughter Lisa Boivin and 6 brothers: Roland, Sylvio, Leo, Wilfrid, Oliva and Jean-Guy Lavoie all of Canada and 4 sisters: Luce, Aline, Fernande and Armandine all of Canada.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Home Health & Hospice for the comfort and loving care that they gave their mother and for the emotional support that they gave to them during her last days.
There were a few statements that our mom always used to say that we will always remember, one was “My poor head” and the other was “I’m fine”. Well mom, your poor head is now at rest, and yes, you are now really “fine”. Rest in peace, mom, we will miss you, but you will remain with us forever. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to HealthAlliance Home, Health & Hospice, 60 Hospital Road, Leominster, MA 01453.
