Fitchburg, MA. Suz was the loving daughter of J. O. Raymond Allaire and Irene M. (Belanger) Allaire. She passed away, at the age of 79, on Thursday afternoon, January 4, 2024 at 32 Hospital Road, Gardner, MA after a tremendous effort was given to get her back to her home. At the time of her passing Suz was surrounded by her family in a room they had made as homey as possible with pictures (one of Suz passions), a crafted Diamond Dot wall hanging (that included two of Suz’s favorites Mason Jars and Sunflowers), a game of cribbage, talk of puzzles, and her families endless love.
Suzanne was proud to be the wife of her high school sweetheart, Leo F. Rufiange for 59 years and the loving mother of Sandi L. Montuori (“significant other” Rodney L. Arndt), of Lunenburg, MA. And Ron R. Rufiange (wife Alyson J.) of Fitchburg, MA. She was blessed with two grandchildren: Adam T. Montuori of Princeton, MA and Amanda L. Montuori of Fitchburg, MA. Suzanne was very happy that her family now included the additions of Adam’s fiancée Caitlin J. Mitchell and Amanda’s fiancé Patrick R. Spooner.
Suzanne is survived by three brothers: David A. Allaire of Las Vegas, NV, Peter A. C. Allaire (wife Linda R.) of Fitchburg MA, and Paul R. Allaire of Fitchburg, MA. In-laws: Yvette M. Moran of Baldwinville, MA, Louise T. Ferrera of Lunenburg, MA, Alice M. McCarthy of West Boylston MA, and Theresa R. and Jim Pearson of Womelsdorf, PA and countless nieces and nephews. (Including Godson’s: Ralph Romano Jr, Jeff Robillard and Lee Szolusha)
Suzanne listed her accomplishments as being a grad of St. Francis of Assisi School. Attending St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School, and as a 1962 graduate of Fitchburg High School. She also attended Mt. Wachusett Community College and was a graduate of Fisher Jr. College. She received her accounting degree from International Accountants Society.
Suzanne was an independent small business accountant, for several local small businesses, including Leo’s Sound World (the family business), Dutch Kitchen, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and many, many others. While working for St. Francis Parish, Suz became Parish Council Secretary, and Chairman of Finance Committee, Stewardship, and Partners in Charity. She also ran the church Bingo as bookkeeper and chairperson for many years.
Suzanne had an active Fraternal life where she became Secretary, and later President, of both local and regional chapters of United Commercial Travelers of America (known as UCT), a fraternal organization promoting “People Helping People”. She was also Past Secretary of New England Fraternal Alliance, encompassing 35 societies throughout New England. Suzanne was selected as “2008 Fraternalist in Action”. (See Attached article from UCT Sample Case).
Suz enjoyed doing anonymous acts of kindness. For example, giving out her fruit baskets at St. Francis Bingo to those she thought could just use them when their heads were turned away. Also, putting angel ornaments on the Christmas trees of friends and family without them knowing, when she visited just for fun!
She also enjoyed helping others by taking part in various health studies through the Women’s Health Initiative for many years.
When talking about what she enjoyed most Suz said: “Spending time traveling around America with My Love, Leo visiting Family and attending Fraternal events.” (They made it to 42 States in 59 years while listening to Willie Nelson’s “On the road Again, their theme song Suz said!), Helping Others, Sewing, Organizing, Playing Games (“except Monopoly because that never ends”) & Cards, Doing Puzzles, Crafting, and Decorating. All the days with family at her and Leo’s favorite beaches, Wells, ME & Melbourne FL, Camping with family at Shopping, Antiquing, Thrifting, getting a “good bargain”, Going to Casinos. (One of her favorites lately was The Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, FL). Also, over their 59 years Suz and Leo most enjoyed spending time with all their various “Families” as Suz referred to them by all the last names ( and we could fit them all but we wouldn’t want to leave anyone out) including : Immediate Family, Extended Family, In- Laws, The Maine Family (including of Cousins), Fraternal Families of UCT, & New England Fraternal Alliance, St. Francis Parish Family, St. Bernards Central Catholic HS Family, City of Fitchburg Family, and most recently their Melbourne, FL Family of longtime Friends and now relatives. St. Bernards parish Faily. Their Fitchburg Family of Neighbors. Their life was filled with filled with Camping and Beaches with the Immediate & extended the Deerfield Fare, NH.
Suz also mostly loved gathering family and friends to share good times at the lakefront home in Ashburnham for 26 years. Until 2018, when she and Leo sold this “dream home” to become “snow birds”. Moving to Melbourne, FL for the winters that was also a dream that came true.
Suz was predeceased by her parents: J. O. Raymond Allaire and Irene M. (Belanger) Allaire, and two sisters: Constance J. Allaire, DHS, of Putnam CT and Simone A. Romano of Fitchburg.
