At age 94, Theresa Leger (nee Boivin) peacefully passed away after a brief illness on March 1, 2025. She was predeceased in 1973 by her beloved husband Alpherie “Al” Leger whom she married in 1949. The proud mother of her three sons, she is survived by Leo and wife Cathy Leger of Wilmington, MA, Donald and wife Jessica Leger of Westminster, MA and Philip Leger of Austin, TX. Theresa was extremely devouted to Al and to raising their sons in West Fitchburg to be good and to do well.
As “Memere” she was the Grandmother of Lucas Leger, Marisa King and Christopher Leger. Called “GG,” she was the Great-grandmother of Elexis, Nolan and Reese Leger; Jocelyn, Elise and Mason King; as well as Bellamy and Christopher Leger. She leaves many adoring nieces and nephews.
Theresa was born and raised in Fitchburg’s Cleghorn in 1930 the daughter of Hermenegilde and Bibiane (Ida) Boivin. She attended St. Joseph Grammar school and Fitchburg H.S. She was predeceased by her Brother Ernest Boivin and wife Simonne, Sister Jeanette Kiezek and Granddaughter Katie Leger. She is survived by her Sister Loretta Richard of Canada, Brother-in-Law George Leger and his wife Claire, and Sisters-in-Law Jeanette and Georgette Leger.
She was an accomplished accordion player who entertained her family and friends with favorite requests such as “Pistol-Packin Mama.” She also proudly maintained her bilingual French speaking ability. After working for years at Foster Grant and Sanitoy, she spent 16 years as a volunteer at the Simonds Sinon Regional Cancer Center (Burbank) in Fitchburg retiring at age 85. A special thank you to Dr. Ali and the staff there for their constant care and support at the Cancer Center. Volunteering at the same time as receiving care meant so much to Theresa and the family. She will be missed by her dear friends Kim and Janice.
She was a resident of the Leominster Rehabilitation and Nursing home since 2021 where she was well cared for by staff - especially Israel, Rebecca and Marie. She was admitted to UMass Memorial Hospital – Leominster several days before her passing and the family also wishes to acknowledge the professionalism and compassion of the ER, Critical Care and Comfort Care staff there.
Arrangements are being handled by the Lavery Chartrand Alario Funeral Home of 99 Summer Street, Fitchburg with visitation there on Saturday afternoon, March 8th at 12:45. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 at St. Camillus-St Bernard’s Church, 333 Mechanic Street, Fitchburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Simonds Sinon Regional Cancer Center with checks referring to her name mailed to 275 Nichols Rd., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
